Mike Pence tells Wisconsin crowd Packers will beat 'Nancy Pelosi's 49ers' in NFC Championship Game
Vice President Mike Pence appears to be rooting for the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game because House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is a San Francisco 49ers fan.
During a Tuesday night rally in Milwaukee, Pence told the crowd, "We're 11 months away from Election Day, and we're just five days away from when the Green Bay Packers defeat Nancy Pelosi's 49ers."
According to reporters covering the rally, the pro-Trump Wisconsin crowd then broke out into "Go Pack Go" chants.
Pence has a strange history with the 49ers himself, as he once attended a game between the 49ers and his hometown Indianapolis Colts in 2017, but walked out after seeing players kneeling during the national anthem.
“I left today's Colts game because @POTUS and I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our Flag, or our National Anthem,” he wrote on Twitter.
It was later estimated that his brief trip to the game likely cost taxpayers more than $250,000.
Pelosi said last week that while she wanted to attend the 49ers' Divisional Round playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings, she instead had to "save our country from peril" as she was still withholding the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump from the Senate.
It's unclear if she will attend the NFC Championship Game.
